CrossRoads celebrates Windswept Ranch, Eyes, and Spring in May
CrossRoads Gallery is as happy as anyone that Spring is finally here!
To celebrate, in May we will be featuring the artwork of Mary Ann Moore, Sandi Thoman, Terry Sontag and Nancy Waldron, and guest artists in a show titled “Time to Play.” The new displays will open to the public on First Friday, May 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Mary Ann Moore is creating a tribute to the animals of Windswept Ranch for the month of May. Last fall she took a friend from out of town to Windswept Ranch (off Tehachapi Willow Springs) to see the camels and all the other exotic animals that live on the ranch. “We were given a grand tour and of course I got some great photos,” Mary Ann says. One of the photos was of a horse, which she says “was a perfect subject for a workshop where I learned how to create beautiful graphite drawings. I came away from that workshop with a great sense of accomplishment and an even greater desire to produce beautiful drawings of equines.”
For her tribute at CrossRoads, Mary Ann thought it would be fun to honor the other animals at Windswept Ranch as well. She is producing art work of camels, horses, donkeys and “maybe even a Yak or reindeer.” She says friend and fellow artist Flo Sussell will also be showing her “beautiful drawing of the zebra.”
Terry Sontag, represented by gallery manager James Wilson, is a local painter well known for his landscapes, and Sandi Thoman is a creative artist who paints on canvases and anything else with space to paint on (including things like plates, saws, eggs, and ice skates, to name a few of her many surfaces).
Nancy Waldron is a watercolor artist who delights everyone with her use of color and range of subject matters. She says: “I try to keep myself open all the time to new ideas. I like to push the envelope, learn new techniques, tackle different subject matter, and experiment with new color. It keeps me fresh, interested, and excited about painting.”
When asked “What’s next?” Nancy says: “In May my show will feature ‘eyes.’ Come to Crossroads Gallery to see my new collection.”
In addition, the Gallery will be featuring guest art that shows the lighter side of life, a “Time to Play.” All artists are invited to submit artwork for the guest shows. Art for the May show is due on Wednesday, May 2.
CrossRoads Gallery is located on the northeast corner of the Compass Rose in the middle of historic downtown Tehachapi, at 101 E Tehachapi Boulevard. For more information call 822-5242 or check out website at crossroadsgallerytehachapi.com
